Fun Idea
I saw this idea on a blog a while back. I found a Scrabble game at Goodwill yesterday for $.99 so I couldn't resist!

Nothing Exciting
Thoughts:
~ I'm so glad that Spring is here. Now don't get me wrong, I'm sure that Winter is not finished, but right now it feels like Spring. I'm laying in bed listening to thunder and we are under a tornado watch and severe thunderstorm warning for the night. (I just reread that and I made it sound like the strong storms are part of Spring that I enjoy ~ not so) The Spring flowers are starting to show. The trees are starting to put on their colors. This will be our first Spring up "north" in 10 years. I'm excited.
~ Sometimes it is hard being a parent. Don't have all the answers.
~ I'm tired of coughing. Been sick for 12 days now and just about ready to feel normal again.
~ It seems like KC's whole motivation in life right now is to "escape" the back yard. The other day we had a knock on the front door and it was the neighbor lady. She said that KC had showed up on their front door step!
~ I'm waiting for the strong meds to start working. I went back to the doc today to get something to help me sleep. I'm not patient.
~ I planted some pansys in one of Kevin's old "army" pans. It is a blueware pan that he used to take to the field with him. Looks great with flowers in it. I will post pics later.
~ This is Becca's week off so she is happy. We do 3 weeks on and 1 week off. The other kids can't do that until next year.
~ Kevin is done teaching for a short while. They are between semesters so he is getting ready for his next set of classes.
~ We had some friends from TX stay with us Saturday night. Oscar, Cathy and the kids. It was so much fun to catch up with them. Glad we were on the way between where they spent their Spring break and their home!
Getting sleepy, I guess it is starting to work. Good night.

AWANA Quizzing and Games
This past weekend, Zach and I went to the Awana Journey Bible Quiz and Games!! We both had a ton of fun and really enjoyed ourselves. Neither of our teams placed, but both of our teams were in the top ten in the region.

Our games teams did really well this year! The church we were with took two teams, the 1st team got first place, and the team that Zach and I were on got 3rd place. We lost 2nd place by one point!!! That was a little disappointing, but we had a great time anyways!

Prayer
Hey everybody!
I wanted to ask you to pray for my mom right now. She is running a fever and has been since Wednesday. She feels pretty miserable and is more then ready to be well again. So if you could pray for her, it would be greatly appreciated!

Update from Kathy~ (Tuesday afternoon) I just got home from the doctor. This is day 7 of having this fever and she wasn't fazed by that. She said that this bug lasts 10-14 days! UGH But at least I have some medication that should help control the cough. Kathy

Twitter away the moments that make up a dull day!
Recently a Kansas City Radio Talk Show Host, Chris Stigall started a campaign named REAL MEN DON'T TWEET. And so it caused me to think about this social phenomenon of Twitter.
Frankly I don't get it.
It seems to me that Twitter is the equivalent of the person at the party or in the office that has to tell you every detail of their last operation; or the know-it-all that has done everything you have done - only better. You know those people that no one likes to be around because they talk all the time. The only difference between talkers and Twitter heads is that when the talkers finally do stop talking those words end and they just float off into space. We are not that lucky with Tweets.
More importantly though, I have been considering the following:
Why has it suddenly become the social norm for everyone to know what everyone else is doing all day, every day?
It seems to me like the inventors of this scourge on society have created a means to make everyone think that their minute-by-minute activities are so important that the rest of the world MUST know about their activities, no matter how mundane or trivial, immediately and for posterity to have and hold (or at least until the internet dies). We used to have a word for that type of personality or mentality ... what was that word?!? What has happened to make us such a self-important society? (Rebecca just told me about someone out there that updates his Twitter every 4 minutes!!! He must be REALLY important!) I'm not sure I know the answer to the previous question but I do know one thing...I refuse to give in. I will not become a twitter head.

By the way the same ideas probably apply to Facebook.

Stuff
Just a couple things:
Josh has been looking at this camera for a couple of years and he finally purchased it!
So when he got his new toy the family was the recipient of this:
That camera is quite a step up from what I have been using. Can't beat it when you have a generous son who "hands up" things.
What else is going on around here?
~~ I got in a card making mood the other night while we watched a movie:
~~The weather is really messed up right now. It was 56` this morning about 7am and it is now 37` (at 3 pm) and it is supposed to be in the teens with a wind chill in the single digits over night!
~~Three of the kids are watching God's and Generals presently for school. They are studying the Civil War right now. They don't ever complain when I have them watch movies for school! :)
~~I'm wondering about our friends that are moving from TN to FL soon and they are not updating their blog about what is new! ;)
~~We have something EVERY weekend for about 2 months straight. :( I guess that means we have gotten past the "we just moved somewhere new" point. I always enjoy the down time after we move somewhere new.
~~ The kids introduced me to a radio web site. It is www.pandora.com You can type in a band, person or song and it will play that "Type" of music. If they pull up something that you don't like you can click on the "thumbs down" button and they won't play that again. Kind of fun.
~~I can't wait to get my flowers planted, but I know that is a ways off yet. I'm just used to being able to plant this early in TX and FL. I just need to be patient.
~~S & Z will be competing in the Awana Bible quiz and Games this Saturday. It will be fun. They are on the team from RBBC ~ a church that we belonged to when we lived in KC. But it will be an all day thing!
~~ Becca started a new quilt today for "Art" time. But it was a bit frustrating since the machine wasn't working properly and I couldn't find my sewing machine book. The up side is that my whole wardrobe that holds all my sewing stuff is now nicely organized! And when Kevin called I mentioned that I was looking for it and he told me right where it was!
~~ I recently took on a new position. I will be the state coordinator for our state for Teen Pact! A huge job as I'm not stepping into someone's shoes, it will be a first for our state. Thankfully I have a whole year to get it together.
Enough from here, I need to go fight with the sewing machine. :)

TeenPact 2009
This past week Mom, Zach and I went to the Missouri state capitol in Jefferson City. We spent a week learning about state government through TeenPact Leadership School.
We spent the week learning about different aspects of the government. We had hands on experience with things such as running primary and general elections, writing bills, putting bills through committees, and debating bills on the floor of the House of Representatives.
We also learned how to actively engage the culture for Christ. We engaged people in the capitol building with questions such as: What do you think the role of the family is in the American culture? and what do you think the role of the church should be in American society and is it fulfilling that role?
While we were there Zach had the chance to run for the TeenPact legislature. He was voted in to one of the three Representative offices by the class. The class also elected a governor and two other representatives.
In the evening we had worship and had a guest speaker. We met some great friends and had a lot of fun!
This picture is of my cabin and our small group leader, Caroline. I had a really fun cabin this year and I really enjoyed Bible study.
Mom was with us the entire week and when we were on the floor of the House, she watched us hold debate.

We had the privilege of getting to listen to Judge Breckenridge speak to us about her job as Supreme Court Justice.
It was a great week and now we have lots of unpacking and laundry!
