They are Off !!!

Sarah left this morning for a 10 day mission trip. They fly to Florida today. They will rent a van and drive 1 1/2 hours to the headquarters for Missionary Flights International. They will spend the night in a hotel near that. Then tomorrow they have to be at MFI by 6am and will fly to Cap Hatian, go through customs and then fly on to Pignon. They will be landing on a grass landing strip in Pignon. Our missionary friends will pick them up at the landing strip. :) Sound exciting???? Here is the group as they were getting ready to leave KCI this morning.They will be staying and working at Haiti Home of Hope. I tried to copy some photos from HHH, but since I am not very good at computer stuff it didn't work. You can check out their page by looking at their web site:

Italy #6

This was in Monterrosso. Still more hills to walk. But I guess that was good to burn all those extra "pasta" calories that we were eating. :)
Moneterrosso is the one town out of all 5 that is known for it's beaches. The beach was quite full.

This was the front of a church. It is amazing what they do with marble over there!

Italy #5

Another picture in Cinque Terre. It was amazing seeing the fishing boats pulled right up on the city street.

More of the lovely flowers hanging over a wall. They were about 4-5 feet tall. Grandma was hanging her laundry on the balcony. We saw this scene over and over!Waiting for the train. We did this a lot.A group of men bringing in their fishing boat.Beth and I hiked up above Vernazza one morning. The guys had taken the train to LeSpezia to pick up a rental car. So we went hiking for the morning. We got the above view of the harbor from the height that we climbed to.No words needed for this one. :) One of our favorite kinds of stores to visit. Sunset over the town and harbor. Beautiful.

Italy #4

Ok here are a few more. It is hard to pick pictures since we took 740 of them! But here are the ones that I like today.The first full day in Vernazza we decided to hike to the next town. It was less than 2 miles, but it was almost 2 hours of hiking. It seemed like we went up hill about 3/4 of the time. But the views were wonderful!Here is the next town over, Corniglia. This was the first bar that we came to in that city.All that hiking was worth it when we knew that some pizza was waiting for us when we got there!

Italy #3

Here are a few from our time in Vernazza. We spent 3 nights in this town. It was wonderful.We have just gotten off of the train. We are standing under the train tracks.
This was the church in town.A view of the harbor.I know that this is blurry, but the town square was beautiful at night.
Kevin and Beth both ordered this dish. It was shrimp, orecchiette and asparagus. The key was that it was the WHOLE shrimp, eyes and all. I just laughed at it.A very European breakfast ~ yogurt, meat, cheese, rolls and fruit. Yummy
The owner decorated our cappachino and tea each morning with fresh flower petals. Really pretty.Our room.I got this shot from our hotel room window of these men who were dragging their fishing nets to the harbor. It was definitely a fishing village.That is all for today!

Italy #2

Here is how we traveled around. No suitcases. We each took a back back that fit the carry on requirements. It worked really well. If I duplicate some of the photos, I apologize. I have to try to remember which photos I posted on FB and which ones I put on here.
We are headed from our hotel to the train station. We dropped our back packs in a secure place then spent the 2nd day until about 1pm at the Forum and Colosseum.

I think this was Kevin's favorite part of the trip. And he had it daily, sometimes hourly!!!This was our tour guide. He tracked us down and showed us around the Forum and Colosseum. I was leery at first, but we were so glad that we hired him. We were able to tell him exactly how much time we had before we needed to catch our train. Then he showed us around and gave us tons of info about the area. Plus he was funny to boot! Kept us laughing. Everytime we took his picture he put up his hand like this, never waved it. Don't know what that was about. His name was Giovonni. It was incredible to think about how these stones have been are still in use for these hundreds of years!
Us in the Colosseum.We planned on this 4 hour train trip from Rome to Vernazza to nap on day #2. It worked well. :)As you can see there were very few others traveling with us on this train. I think there were only about 4 others for the whole trip.Shots of the landscape as we traveled. It was beautiful.
