Another visitor

Last weekend a friend of Sarah's came to visit us. We met their family in Florida and then we were stationed with them again in TX. They now live a few hours away here in Kansas and she was able to come for a visit. She was actually here on her birthday!~~Kathy~~~

Real Shortbread

Last week we had the priveldge of housing a missionary couple in our home for 5 nights. They came as strangers and left as friends. They serve with Biblical Missions Worldwide and are stationed in Scotland right now. We had a wonderful time getting to know them. He was born and raised in the States, but she was born in Scotland. I so enjoyed listening to her speak! Lots of fun. One day she taught the girls and I how to make "Real" shortbread. We had a great time and boy was it tasty!~~Kathy~~~

American Royal

This week Becca and I went on a little field trip. We went to KC to the American Royal. Here is a little bit about it for those of you that are not from around here:

History

The American Royal Association, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation and Kansas City's longest running show, has been a Kansas City tradition since 1899. During September, October and November, more than 250,000 people attend the American Royal.

The American Royal began in a tent in the Kansas City Stockyards as a national Hereford Show. This show has grown into the annual American Royal Livestock Show drawing an audience of over 69,000 including owner/breeders, future business and agriculture leaders (high school and collegiate) and animal enthusiasts from a 30 state region.

The horse show was added in 1905 and has grown to include five shows (Quarter Horse, Hunter-Jumper, Arabian, Saddle Horse and 4-H). The horse shows draw over 7,000 horse-enthusiasts, owners, trainers, grooms and riders nationwide and a 12,000+ ticketed audience of horse lovers.

The first Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) sanctioned rodeo was added in 1950.

We had a great day. We called some friends from church last minute and they were willing to go with an hour's notice. We met up with some friends from a church that we attended about 10 years ago. Fun to see folks that we haven't seen in a long time.We were able to watch the rodeo which is a "kids rodeo". There were kids as young as 4 years old riding (they were riding sheep and it was SOOOOO cute!) And they went all the way up to teens.
After that we walked around the AG building and there were lots of vendors, a petting zoo and some other livestock.
We finished the day by watching some competition.~~Kathy~~~~

New color in Laundry Room

Here is the before color. The lower color that is a bit tan is the old color. The yellow is the new.

We got another project done today. We started the laundry room last week, but just painted around the washer and dryer. Today we pulled them out and finished up. Yes, it is really bright, but not really as bright as these pics look.

Painting the basement

Last week it was time to update the basement. It had been a peachy color and I wanted something new. Josh and I did most of it. I always do the cutting in and Josh did the roller. Zach did help a bit one time. I'm really very pleased with the new color. It is a sage green.

This is the finished product

Silver Dollar City

Last weekend we went to Branson for a church retreat. We had a session at the hotel Friday night, one Saturday morning (Kevin taught that one) and then 2 on Sunday morning. We finished with a communion service at noon on Sunday. That left Saturday after 10am free. Lots of the families took the opportunity to go to Silver Dollar City. Our family hadn't been there for 15 years. Josh was 4 at the time and we didn't go during the summer. We were there for the Christmas lights. We really had a great day and it was so fun to be walking along and run into friends all over the place. :)

Here is the family photo as the day began. After this we split up since Becca, Kevin and I had different things that we wanted to do from the other kids. ;) Theirs involved roller coasters and such.
This is part of the group that we were with.
Josh riding "Wildfire"
Zach riding the "Barn Swing"
Sarah riding the "Powder Keg"
Sarah is NOT a fan of roller coasters, but to quiet all those that she was with she rode this roller coaster ~ ONE TIME. That was enough for her! (she happened to pick the one that..... This explosive roller coaster sends riders into a thrill zone within seconds of climbing aboard, launching from 0 to 53 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds...) Probably not the best one for her to pick! And yes, this photo is taken BEFORE the ride. :)

Lambert's

Last weekend we took a family trip to Branson. We were very excited to stop at Lamberts Cafe, "home of the Throwed Rolls". :) Our first assignment after flight school in Alabama was Ft. Campbell, KY. We were there for 4 years. In those 4 years we drove back and forth to Joplin many times. We always tried to time our trips so that we could stop either on the way to Joplin or back to Ft. Campbell at Lambert's. (we stopped at the one in Sikeston, MO) So this was a trip down memory lane for us. We had stopped there one other time in recent years ~ during our move from Fl to Tx ( and yes that trip took us thru MO????)
I grabbed Josh's camera from him and got a shot of him!

These 2 shots are the best ones that we could get of the rolls actually being "throwed" across the room. It is so funny, all you do is stick your arm up in the air and the guy with the rolls throws them across the room to you. And yes, sometimes people get hit in the back of the head with a roll or a glass gets knocked over by the roll. Just adds to the specialness of the place! ;)
Yum, fried okra! Need I say more????
